Who are “third country nationals”?

Third country nationals are non-Hungarian nationals who are not persons with the right of free movement and residence, i.e. who are not EEA national or a family members of an EEA national, and stateless persons.

 

Who can apply for a Guest Investor Visa?

Third-country nationals who fulfils the following conditions:

  • Who can prove having a valid amount of money corresponding to at least one of the eligible investments, which must be available or transferable to Hungary;
  • Who submit a written commitment to make at least one of the eligible investments within three months of entering Hungary with a guest investor visa;
  • Have valid travel documents;
  • Have the necessary authorization for return or onward travel;
  • Provide proof of the purpose of entry and stay;
  • Have sufficient resources to cover their living costs and subsistence expenses for the entire duration of their stay, including travel expenses;
  • Are insured for the full cost of health care or can provide for the cost of health care;
  • Are not subject to refoulement or a ban of entry and residence, or does not endanger public policy, public security, national security or public health interests in Hungary;
  • Are not under SIS alert.

 

Where can I apply for a Guest Investor Visa?

You can apply for a visa at the Hungarian embassy or consulate abroad where you reside. Later, the residence permit application must be submitted in Hungary.

 

What about my family?

Almost all of Hungary’s residence permits enable the applicants to include their spouse and their children under the age of 18 years old. If the applicant’s children are over this age, it may still be possible to include them, providing they can prove financial dependency, are studying and unmarried. Parents may also be included in the application, if they are 65 years and over, there is no need to prove dependency.

 

What if my application will be rejected?

An appeal against a negative decision may be lodged within 8 days of notification with the authority that issued the first instance decision or with the diplomatic mission or consular post of the place of application.

 

As a Guest Investor, when can I get a Hungarian citizenship?

After 8 years you can start the procedure to obtain citizenship, which requires a language test and a cultural test. The basic condition is that the applicant’s status must be a foreigner living in Hungary, i.e. hold a permanent residence permit and have an address in the register of citizens’ personal data. It is also important to have a secure home and livelihood in Hungary, a clean criminal record, and citizenship must not harm public security or national security.
